David Hayes "Sammy Davis Jr."
"I got my positive attitude from my parents, who said I could do ANYTHING."
David studied theater and the arts in college and instructs/coaches locally at Take2 Performer’s studio. His acting skills were put to use in his one-man show, where James Sullivan of the San Francisco Chronicle noted: "Like his idol, Hayes 'did it all' in his 90-minute tribute." He is a drama teacher, tutors music and is an abstract art instructor at a private school.
As an entertainer, he has performed in shows such as Reflections of the Rat Pack, Escape with David Hayes, Work That Skirt, and American Superstars. He was awarded “Best Performer in a Production Show” four out of five years by Fun & Gaming Magazine, sharing that accolade one year with the cast as “Best Act.” He has performed Europe’s Broadway--the West End of London—touring the UK, Germany, Denmark, and then the U.S. with, ”The Rat Pack Live from Las Vegas.”
An accomplished comedian and emcee, he has opened for and worked with such greats as George Lopez, The Temptations, The Four Tops, KC & The Sunshine Band, Herbie Hancock, Tower of Power, and Florence Henderson. He worked the comedy circuit including the Improv in, amongst others, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Reno, and Atlantic City, with clean, entertaining humor. Other venues involve the major cruise lines and private and corporate conventions.
As a visual artist, David's work was exhibited at Caesar's Palace Las Vegas, in the Galleria di Sorrento. He received a grant from the Sierra Arts Foundation for his "RoadArt," which was displayed at Reno City Hall during Uptown, DOWNtown, ARTown's "C.I.T.Y 2000" event. The Hilton graced its showroom foyer with his Jazz Series. Some of his work could be seen hanging at the Carson City DMV and in popular Northern Nevada restaurants. A major exhibit featured his work at the National Automobile Museum.
David Hayes has been the co-producer and co-owner of Daisy Devine Productions, Incorporated, since 1997. He has produced events such as Rendezvous with The Pack-- a New Year's Eve Rat Pack show at the Reno Hilton, the National Bowler's Convention in Indianapolis, The Rat Pack Review in Wytheville VA, and most recently The National Guard Convention at the Reno Events Center.
Harrahs Reno celebrated its 100th anniversary of Bill Harrah in 2011 by dedicating a tribute—“Sammy: Celebrating the Legacy” featuring Hayes’ talents on an extended run.
”‘That was the best singing impersonation of me that I've ever heard.' David Hayes was the subject of this compliment from Sammy Davis Jr.; after seeing David perform in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Sammy turned to me with these words of admiration.“
-- Clayton Cameron,
Sammy's drummer from 1983-1990.
David makes his home on the foothills of the Sierra Nevada -- just minutes from beautiful Lake Tahoe, with his wife Karen, a son, and a daughter.
